Becky Bookwyrm Book Reivew: Beware the Eye of Odin (Comic)

Helgi, the prince of a Viking village, has stumbled upon the cursed Eye of Odin. If he doesn’t return it to its rightful owner by the new moon, he will die an agonizing death of boils and decay. By his side are Stigr, a one-armed warrior past his prime, and Kadlin, a female warrior convinced she’s a Valkyrie. Their only path will take them through the treacherous lands of the Hundrafolk, Trolls, and Dwarven Smiths.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This comic was a LOT of fun! Puts the reader straight into the action and drama and the first few lines are great hooks and set the tone for whats to come. A superb trio of characters that through danger and fireside we learn just enough of to connect with. From the prince with the taint of bad luck in life, the warrior turned blacksmith who wishes for a second chance, and the bubbly bright personality of a woman who is adamant she is a Valkyrie yet no one believes her...

The foes they face vary from Huldra Folk (big black eyed little people), a giant aggressive boar and Trolls - and they are delightfully hideous!

It was full of surprise twists and insight into our trio of heroes and the ending is superbly well done, the humour throughout this tale is a brilliant partner to the dialogue and events.

The art style is also captivating, vibrant and the position and framing makes it genuinely feel like watching a detailed animation more than sections on a page.

I would very much love to have more stories from this norse-inspired universe.
